You’ve just decided that you want to get into affiliate marketing because of all the benefits and hype surrounding it. It is true that Affiliate Marketing is definitely one of the easiest and quickest ways to create a job replacing income online But, before you go and put that down payment on your dream car, here are a few mistakes I’ve outlined that so many new affiliate marketers make that you’ll want to avoid. Read them carefully and keep them in the back of your head so that you don’t fall prey to these mistakes.
5 – Believing the Hype
And yes, I do mean the hype promoted by so many Affiliate Marketing Gurus. So many affiliate marketers tend to share these huge income projections. The problem with these projections is that they are just projections. It is completely possible to reach the projections promised by these gurus, but will you reach them within your first few months of the program? Probably not. Look at Affiliate Marketing as a long-term investment in your future, not a way to get rich quick. The true secret to Affiliate Marketing is believing in yourself and your ability to make your dreams come true. But don’t believe the hype. You can make tons of money off Affiliate Marketing. Just don’t think you can achieve it overnight.
4 – Expecting Instant Results with Little Effort
Contrary to what most people promote, Affiliate Marketing does take some hard work. It requires daily effort. If you opened your own neighborhood store, you’d expect to have to go in to work daily, wouldn’t you? You’d expect to have to advertise and get people to come to your store. Well, you just opened your own brand new affiliate business, what are you going to do to make it work? How are you going to get people to come look at your product? It is important that you don’t fail into the trap of thinking that all you should do is paste some links over the internet and expect to see money rolling into your bank account.
Affiliate Marketing not only takes time, but it always takes dedication and effort. The beauty is, the better you get at it the less amount of effort you will need to put in. That’s why you see so many people preaching that they only work a few hours a day. This is completely attainable, just not right away. Put in the time and effort now, so you can enjoy the rewards later.
3 – Lack of a plan and specific goals
You’ve probably heard the saying, plan your work and work your plan. You need to have a specific plan and clear, measurable goals. Many people join affiliate programs with the vague goal of wanting to make a lot of money. How much money? How quickly do you want it? (Try to be realistic here, making a million dollars in one month is not realistic.) Okay, you have your clear, specific goal. Now how are you going to get there. Again, think clear, specific steps here.
This is the mistake that I struggled with the most. I went around the web trying to promote as many affiliate products as possible without having a clear end goal. How can you ever reach the end when you don’t even know where it is? Work on creating a business plan and marketing plan. Determine what products you want to promote, set a system in place to handle the promotions, and figure out where and how you will promote them. Trust me when I say this, Affiliate marketing will be so much more easy when you set goals for yourself.
2 – Shine above the rest
Most great affiliate programs out there will do a great job of providing marketing material. You will receive things like, market demographics, email swipes, banner images, ad text, and so much more. The problem with this is that every single affiliate marketer promoting this product will be using the same exact materials. You want to make sure that you stand out above the rest. Take the time to change the wording on the emails and text. Put a little bit of you in the marketing. Even a little bit of extra effort will go a long way.
Don’t be afraid to share information about yourself. People like getting to know other people. If you take the time to see what top Affiliate Marketers are doing you will notice that a lot of them share personal stories about themselves in the marketing promotions. Make sure that you focus on being unique.
1 – Quitting
You’ve been working your affiliate program for 2, 3, maybe even 4 months now with very little to show for it. You’re getting discouraged and beginning to wonder if this is worth it after all. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and figure out what it is you need to be doing. Learn more. Figure out what others are doing to make it work. Don’t quit. No one ever achieved success by quitting. Neither will you.
You need to push past the point where so many people decide to quit. You are not alone. There was several times where I wanted to just give up. But I didn’t. You will find success, but only if you truly want it.
Well, I hope you found this to be helpful. Make sure you avoid making these mistakes and continue to push for success. There has never been a better time to start generating income online. Make sure you put in the effort and never give up.
