As a blogger I understand the struggle of coming up with great ideas for blog posts. The late nights staring at the computer screen trying to put together amazing content for my readers. Coming up with blog post ideas is one of the hardest things there is for a blogger.
We want to create something that will keep our readers coming back for more. Knowing that the struggle is real, I want to help you guys and share with you my awesome tips for coming up with great blog post ideas.
Find Questions to Answer
As bloggers, it is up to us to create content that will help our readers with problems we think they may face. With that it mind, it is pretty clear that one of the best ways to get ideas is to join discussions and figure out what problems people are having. We do this by visiting websites that people post their questions to. Here a few different places you can visit to find groups of people posting their questions.
Websites like Quora and Yahoo Answers are two great places to start with. These website are dedicated to hosting questions and answers. Go and create an account for these websites and start browsing around. Follow topics in your niche and figure out what questions people need answers to. A great tip would be to create a new word document and type out as many questions as possible so that you have plenty of ideas to write about. Not all questions will be article creation worthy, but the more ideas you have the more blog posts you can create.
There are dozens of forums for almost every niche on the web. Lot’s of people visit these forums to gain information and ask questions. It’s a good idea to visit these forums and see what people are talking about. Write down the questions that people are asking and use them to generate great content.
I love joining Facebook groups. They are a great way to interact with other people in your niche and discuss different things. Lot’s of times people post questions to groups. Groups are a great way to interact with people and see what type of content people are in need of. Start searching for engaging Facebook groups to join, but make sure that they are relevant to your niche and that they aren’t full of spammers. You want to find high quality groups where people actually engage with each other.
There are several places on the web you can use to find questions. Start with the three I listed above. There is no doubt you will find tons of ideas for new blog posts!
Write Down All of Your Ideas!
I know what your thinking. If you had ideas you wouldn’t be reading this post. We all have random moments of genius throughout the day. Lot’s of time ideas manifest in our minds while at work, during a run, or even in the shower. As soon as you can, you need to write them down or type them out. Obviously you may be in situations where you can’t just start writing an entire blog post, but you can definitely jot the idea down on a piece of paper or in your smartphone’s notepad. So, when you are finally ready to start typing up an awesome article you can always refer back to your ideas that you wrote down. Trust me when I tell you that this is an amazing strategy. I love writing down ideas and later looking back at them. Most of the time one idea leads to several different blog posts. Definitely try it out and see if it works for you. Eventually you will have created a huge list of possibilities and you’ll never struggle with writers block again.
Build Off of Others
First thing is First… DO NOT COPY OR STEAL ANY ONE ELSE’S WORK! Let me say it one more time just in case the idea is still floating around in your head. DON’T STEAL SOMEONE ELSE’S WRITING! Now that I’ve written that little warning message, I’ll go ahead and let you know what I mean by building off of others. Anyone and Everyone has learned what they know from someone else. We all in a sense are copying other people’s ideas or thoughts. However, we are not supposed to write word for word something someone else has said and claim it as our own. That’s just wrong.
Find Out What Others Are Writing About
What you need to do is do research and see what authority blogs in your niche are writing about. Create articles that are similar to those blog posts. You can find a short article written by a blogger you follow and put it into your own words. Remember to add extra insight and knowledge in your postings.
If you just blog about the same thing everyone else is writing then what would be the point of someone reading your posts. This is what I mean by building off of others. Always go above and beyond what your competitors are doing. Something I like to do is find short articles that a lot of people are reading and I go more in depth with them. For example, if someone wrote an article about the “Top 3 Free Traffic Sources” I would write a different article and title it “6 Best Free Traffic Sources”. See what I mean.
A great way to find great content is by using buzz sumo. They allow you to search for certain topics and show you relevant articles that had the most amount of shares. When articles have high amounts of shares it means that lots of people found it to be very useful. Write similar articles to these viral posts. Simply go to buzzsumo.com and start searching.
Let Your Audience Give You Ideas
This strategy seems to always be forgotten. A great way to determine what you should write about is by reading what your audience is saying. Revisit your comments section of past blog posts and see what people are posting. Maybe they need more insights for past blog posts you wrote. What about your social media accounts. Check out what your followers are saying in the comment sections of your posts. Don’t take this for granted. People will not be shy to ask you for help. Take the time to respond to them, or better yet, right a blog post answering their question and respond to them with the link.
You can also just ask them what they want you to post. Send out a broadcast email or post to your social accounts. This is also a great way to let your readers and followers know you are here to help them. Easy enough right? Don’t get so caught up in trying to build an audience that you forget about the loyal followers you already have.
Start Writing Your Ideas Down
With these tips you should never struggle to come up with ideas ever again. Make sure to always type out your ideas on a saved document so you can refer back to it. Don’t be afraid to start writing. A lot of bloggers write posts that never make it to their website, but they help with sparking different ideas.
